This is Newsmotion.org, an innovative project I've been able to be part of as an Associate Editor since the idea first came to life. We hope to bring together civic media, public art, and original documentary reportage. We are interested in empowering independent media and independent voices to help the critical issues of our time engage new audiences and find new solutions. Newsmotion.org is a global media project, "a collective of award-winning journalists and journalism thinkers," wrote Harvard's Nieman Lab.

Our hope is to network the best of independent media and to offer the best alternative to the mainstream coverage that predominates our culture and society. Our original documentary features from around the world have been picked up by PBS News Hour Extra, Guernica, Huffington Post and others.

In the vein of our previous stories by award-winning independent journalists - Kael Alford on working women in Iraq; David Degner on a risky mission with the rebels in Homs, Syria; and Agata Pietron with youth rappers in Eastern Congo - Newsmotion will publish a multi-format story of the eviction of the Roma community from Belgrade earlier this year. This documentary feature story - produced by award-winning journalist team of Matt Lutton and Darko Stanimirovic in Belgrade with Alan Chin and Julian Rubinstein in Brooklyn - is told with photos, audio and text and includes a special slideshow shot by the Roma themselves.
